Rendering Both Video And Sound In Final Cut Pro

In this help page you will learn how to insert a video clip into Final cut pro. After all editing has been acomplished this tutorial will help you render your video clip and sound so it is compatible with Final Cut Pro. (Which in other words lets you play the clip inside Final Cut Pro with sound that has been added or subtracted from the clip). Rendering is an important part to Final Cut Pro and must be done before you can have a completed edited clip for final production. You will always need to render your clip before it can be exported to a DVD, Quicktime, or saved as any other format.

The following steps will help guide you on how to render in Final Cut Pro.

1.) Open Final Cut Pro by Right -Clicking on the applications box, drag your cursor to Video and 3D, Then Select Final Cut Pro.

2.) Once Final Cut Pro is opened, you must insert the clip that you are about to edit. I will be editing a clip of Wall-E. There are a few ways to import the clip. If you have it on your desktop you can just drag and drop it into the Time - Line. Be sure NOT to delete the clip and move your clip from source for example the desktop, if you do, Final Cut Pro will make you reconnect to it (That will be explained in a different Tutorial).

3.) Once you have entered your clip, you will notice that you have two screens in Final Cut Pro. The left screen is your Veiwer screen and will play your clip just like you would see it. The right screen is called your Canvas. Now the right screen will show you all your edits, and most importantly of all it will let you know if you need to render or not. Now grab the yellow TRIANGLE and drag it to the beginning of your clip.

4.) Now that you have dragged the Triangle back to the beginning of the clip, Double click on the Blue VIDEO portion of the timeline. This will make your clip active in the VIEWER SCREEN. Hit Play in the Viewer Screen, you will notice that it plays perfectly fine. But now Hit Play on the Canvas Screen, not so great is it. You will see the video play but will hear no sound, except for the annoying beep, beep, beep sound. To fix this you will have to render.

FYI - Another tip and easy way to find out that you need to render is the BIG RED LINE ACROSS THE TIME LINE SHOWN BELOW IN THE PICTURE.

5.) Now you will have to render the clip so you can get the sound to work again, before you decide to export it out. You must click on the video clip in the timeline to select the clip. Once you do the green and blue will turn into the colors you see below.

6.) Once you have selected the clip, Now you are ready to render your clip. On the Menu bar, go to SEQUENCE and drag your cursor to RENDER ALL, Then Select Both. This will render your clip and make it playable on your CANVAS screen.

7.) Once you are done selecting Render, It will take about 2mins to maybe a couple days, depending on how long your clip is. Usually when you do a lot of editing it will take longer. So be prepared to tell the consultant on duty that your project is rendering. We do watch the computers for you so don't be to shy to ask.

If you have any further questions please ask a consultant on duty and they will be more than happy to help you.
